Abstract. There was no significant effect of the sowing dates and row spacing on the marketable yield of basil. The greatest height and mass of plants and the greatest leaf participation in the yield mass was noted when basil was sown on 15th May, at a distance of 20 cm between rows.

Summary

In the experiment the effect of sowing dates (25th April, 5th May and 15th May) and the row spacing (10, 15 and 20 cm) on the yield of basil was investigated. It was proved that sowing dates and row spacing had no significant influence on the quantity of the marketable yield of basil. However, there was a slight influence of the experimental factors on the height and mass of plants and on the leaf participation in the yield observed. The best effects were obtained for the last sowing date (15th May) and the distance of 20 cm between rows.
